The 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Patrick Areghan, the head of the WAEC National Office, announced the exam’s seven-week timetable in a speech to the media on Thursday in Lagos. The exam will take place from Monday, May 8 to Friday, June 23.

He noted that some locations need more security procedures and expressed concern about the level of insecurity in the nation.

We are communicating with the state governments, the Inspector General of Police, the Brigade Commanders, and other security organizations.

“This is to guarantee that the examination is conducted in a secure setting. We’ve also asked the education minister to get involved,” he said.

Areghan suggested that the WAEC zonal and branch offices had also contacted local security companies for assistance.

There were 1,621,853 applicants total, representing 20,851 secondary schools across Nigeria.

The breakdown shows 798,810 are male, representing 49.25 per cent, while 823,043 are female, representing 50.75 per cent.
