A Kwara state high court judge, Justice Ibrahim Yusuf, sentenced Adetuberu Adetoyese, a corps member serving in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, to two years in prison for internet fraud-related offenses.

The court found the 28-year-old corp member guilty of the charges on Thursday.

Cybercrime offenses were preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Ilorin Zonal Command (EFCC).

The EFCC arrested Adetuberu last week Wednesday at Ogele, a suburb of Ilorin, based on intelligence about the activities of the fraudsters known as Yahoo-Yahoo in Ilorin and its environs.

The convict was from Ilesa in Osun State’s Ilesa West Local Government Area, according to the court.

The EFCC Counsel, Sesan Ola, also revealed in court that during the investigation, the convict admitted that he ventured into ‘Yahoo Yahoo Business’ in 2016 and had built a house with the proceeds of the illegal activities.

When Adetuberu appeared in court on Thursday, he pleaded guilty to the two charges brought against him.

As a result, while sentencing Adetuberu, Justice Yusuf ordered the forfeiture of a three-bedroom flat purchased with the proceeds of illegal activities, a Lexus car, various brands of phones, and a laptop, all of which are instruments of crime, as well as the sum of N921, 535.49 in his bank account to the Federal Government.

The judge, who offered the convict a N200,000 fine, said his conviction would serve as a deterrent to others.
