Despite widespread skepticism about the impact of their votes, thousands of Angolans living abroad are thrilled to cast their first remote vote in this year’s national election next week.
Angolans living abroad have in the past had to return home to vote, and opposition parties, academics, and civil society organizations like movimento mudei have all criticized previous elections as being unfair and unreliable.
On August 24, roughly 14 million Angolans will cast ballots in what is anticipated to be the closest and most competitive race since the first multi-party election in 1992.
