According to Mr. Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police, 21,000 police officers would be on duty for the Osun governorship election on July 16.
At the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Osun 2022 Governorship Election Stakeholders’ Meeting in Osogbo, Alkali Baba made this statement.

However, according to the IGP, the deployment was made to stop thugs from hijacking or interfering with the election process, not to terrorize locals.

Before, during, and after the election, he claimed that the officers on duty will provide protection and safeguard voters as well as INEC staff and equipment.

The police remain apolitical, he added, and they are tasked with ensuring free, fair, and legitimate elections. He claimed the personnel deployed had had received training and been made aware of the norms of engagement.

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the national chairman of INEC, stated in his speech that the organization was completely prepared to handle the Osun poll.

All of the state INEC local government area offices have already received the election materials, he claims.

In addition, Yakubu stated that the collection of Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) will continue until Thursday, July 14, two days before the governorship poll, and that sensitive documents would be handed to the wards 24 hours before to the vote.

Speaking on the state’s PVC collection statistics, Mahmood noted that as of Sunday, July 10, according to INEC records, 1,479,959 of Osun’s 1,955,657 registered voters have already picked up their PVCs.

He urged the electorate to assist with INEC and establish a record by protecting PWDs who would be deployed as ad hoc workers for the poll, chosen from NYSC corps members.
