THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has named among others, Barr. Omosede Igbinedion, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Marcus Onobun, Barr. Jimoh Ijegbai, and a former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Kabiru Adjoto, as Peoples Democratic Party candidates for the House of Representatives in various constituencies in next year’s general election.
Igbinedion is running for Ovia Federal Constituency, while Onobun is running for Esan West/Esan Central and Igueben Federal Constituency, Hon Adjoto is running for Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency, and Hon Ijegbai is running for Owan Federal Constituency.
Senatorial candidates include Hon Matthew Iduoriyekemwen for Edo South, Senator Clifford Ordia for Edo Central, and Senator Francis Alimekhena for Edo North, according to an updated list.
INEC published a list of Edo PDP candidates who participated in primaries organized by a faction of the party led by Chief Dan Orbih.
According to a source within the electoral body, the body does not want to get involved in the internal politics of the Edo PDP and that the final names published as Edo PDP candidates were based on a recent court order.
Mr. Timidi Wariowei, INEC’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Edo State, confirmed the updated version of the PDP’s candidates in Edo, saying the change was effected on INEC’s website based on a court order.
