Students at Ogbomoso’s Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) have petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde about the kidnapping of one of their colleagues.
The students expressed their anguish over the kidnapping of one of their classmates, Opadele Rachael Abiola.
Miss Abiola, a final year Fine and Applied Arts student with Matric Number: 170886, was reportedly abducted in the early hours of July 29th, 2022, according to LAUTECH students in a petition addressed to Buhari and Makinde.
According to a statement signed by the Students Union Government (SUG) President, Anuoluwa Adeboye, General Secretary, Okiki Ibrahim Opaleke, and Public Relations Officer, Love Gabriel Michael, Abiola was abducted in a hotel in Aaba, a community near LAUTECH.
They went on to say that Abiola is working at the hotel because of the ASUU strike, which has kept all Nigerian students out of school.
The union then advised Buhari and Makinde to protect them from kidnappers who frequently kidnap their colleagues.
“It is with a heavy heart that we write this openly to the Federal Government Presidency, the Oyo State Government, and all Nigerians,” the students stated. Our hearts are broken by the unending pain inflicted on our fellow students by criminals (rapists, thieves, looters, kidnappers, and murderers) who have spread across the country as “bandits.”
“It breaks our hearts to report that Opadele Rachael Abiola, a final-year Fine and Applied Arts student with Matric Number: 170886, was abducted in the early hours of July 29th, 2022 in a hotel in Aaba, a community near LAUTECH.”
“Racheal was said to be working at the hotel as a result of the ASUU strike, which has kept all Nigerian students outside the classroom.”
“We can no longer freely walk or move, sleep comfortably, travel, or do anything without fear of being abducted or kidnapped, robbed, raped, or maimed within or outside our University Community.”
“This is a bereavement cry from over 35,000 students of Ladoke Akintola University Of Technology, Ogbomoso to the Federal Government Presidency, the Oyo State Government, all security operatives in Nigeria and Oyo State, the Obas, and the Management of LAUTECH over the kidnapping of Rachael by unknown gunmen known as bandits in our dear country, Nigeria, to help, free, and save Rachael.”
