The investigation into Ibrahim Magu by the presidential panel has accused the former acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of settling high-profile cases while pursuing internet fraudsters known as “yahoo boys.”
The EFCC under Magu was said to have obtained 2,446 convictions from 2015 to 2020, of which 2,115 had to do with yahoo boys and 85 high profile cases, according to the final report provided to President Muhammad Buhari in November 2020, according to the cable can.
Abdulrasheed Bawa (NOW EFCC CHAIRMAN), Shehu Ala, and Sambo Mayana, the commission’s investigating officers, allegedly submitted executive briefs to Magu asking for authorization to pursue legal action against high-profile suspects. However, the former EFCC boss reportedly refused to give the authorization until the expiration of court orders.

When Magu was in charge of the EFCC from May 2015 to May 2020, a panel led by the late Ayo Salami, former president of the court of appeals, was established to investigate the organization.
