The Partenopeans’ lineup includes African players, but the frugal businessman regrets ever signing them.

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has stated that he will never sign another African player unless they sign a contract stating that they will not compete in the Africa Cup of Nations.

During the most recent Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, Napoli were missing three key members of their squad.

Kalidou Koulibaly was in action for Senegal, Anguissa Andre Zambo was with Cameroon, and Osimhen was out due to injury, albeit controversially.

During that time, the Partenopeans only lost one game in the Coppa Italia, to Fiorentina.

Nonetheless, Napoli’s astute owner claims that African players are rarely available and that he regrets ever signing them.

“I told them lads, don’t bring up Africans with me anymore!” According to Football Italia, De Laurentiis stated.

“I adore them, but either they sign a contract stating that they will not participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, or else between that tournament and the World Cup qualifiers in South America, these players are never available!”

“We are the idiots who pay salaries only to send them all over the world to play for other people.” According to De Laurentiis.

Still, it’s not surprising, given that the AFCON has long been chastised by Europeans who claim it distorts their seasons.
