The National Population Commission, or NPC, announced on Wednesday that it would hire three million ad hoc workers for the 2023 census.

During a town hall meeting on the trial census for 2023 in Kafanchan, Dr. Abdulmalik Durunguwa, NPC National Commissioner representing Kaduna state, revealed this.

According to Mr. Durunguwa, interested candidates can apply on the recruitment website starting in September.

He claimed that the main purpose of the town hall was to inform the populace about the trial census that would be carried out in the Kaduna South Senatorial District in the local governments of Sanga, Jaba, and Kachia.

He claimed the trial census, which would last until the end of the month, was a practice run for the population and housing census in 2023.

He asked for everyone’s help and cooperation to make the trial census successful.

He reaffirmed the commission’s intention to use technology to carry out a population count that would be well-received by all.

“Without your help, we have very little chance of achieving our goals. Please cooperate with us.

“Unlike previous counts, the census in 2023 will be unique. We’re going to conduct a census that is universally accepted and uncontested.

With the aid of technology, he continued, “human error will be reduced to a minimum.”

The Kpop Ham of Jaba, Danladi Maude, who was spoken for by Basunbo Audu, said the traditional chiefs in the region would persuade their people to assist the enumerators.

He stated that because census was crucial to national planning and development, NPC needed the support of all significant stakeholders.

Other attendees who spoke at the meeting praised the commission for the sensitization efforts and promised to create an environment that would enable the trial and main censuses in the state to be conducted smoothly.
