Ibadan, Nigeria – On Tuesday, judicial workers in Oyo State followed the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria’s (JUSUN) sit-at-home directive in protest of the July salary delay.

Mr. Obafunso Okulaja, the Oyo State JUSUN Public Relations Officer, stated that the decision to strike was made following the union’s congress on Friday.

Okulaja stated that the workers had not received their July salaries, despite the fact that other government agencies in the state had been paid on July 25.

“Because our members couldn’t afford to come to work, we told them to stay at home.”

“JUSUN has yet to receive their July salary in the state, and this has been the case since December 2021.”

“We urge the state government to prioritize us as the third branch of government.”

“If the executive and legislative branches are given priority, the judiciary should be as well.”

“We’ll stay at home until we get our salary in July,” he said. The Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court and State High Court, as well as the entrance gates to court premises and some offices, were discovered to be locked, with people and vehicles barred from entering.

A worker, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, bemoaned the salary payment delay.

“We urge the government to act quickly,” he said.

The Customary Court of Appeal’s gates were also locked.
