Unknown gunmen stormed Arthur Jarvis University in Cross River state’s Akpabuyo loal government area on Wednesday and kidnapped a female student.
Sir Authur Jarvis, a former People Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the state, owns the university, which is located more than 15 kilometers from Calabar, the state capital.

According to reports, the gunmen approached students returning from class on Tuesday night, July 19, and abducted one of them.

Mrs Ughas Ngozi, the institution’s acting registrar, confirmed the unfortunate incident in a statement, assuring that the school is in control of the situation.

“The university administration is on top of events, and security agencies are in command of the situation,” according to the statement.

“All students and staff are asked to remain calm and carry out their normal responsibilities.”

According to The Nation, other students who escaped the attack suffered varying degrees of injuries.

While verifying the attack on the university, the state police public relations officer, Irene Ugbo, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan, has drafted anti-kidnapping, anti-cultism, and dragon units to prevent law and order and rescue the kidnap victim.

Ugbo went on to say that the police had launched an investigation to find out what caused the attack on the private university students.
