Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi says about N80 billion has already been spent on the establishment of King David University of Medical Sciences, which is named after the governor and is located in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Umahi petitioned a start-up fund for the university during a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, in Abuja on Wednesday.

President Muhammadu Buhari, on a visit to Ebonyi state in May, stated that the Federal Government will take over the university, which is the state’s only University of Medical Sciences.

“We are looking for a start-up fund for the institution; we have invested over N80 billion in that university.” If it is done by another agency, I am confident that N150 billion will not suffice. That is not something I brag about.

“I am here to congratulate my brother on his promotion, which is based on the work he has done for the country, and to thank him for his outstanding public service.” He picks up whenever you phone him, and it’s not because I’m the governor.

“The common people are facing many obstacles, and if they can’t receive anything, they should at least have hope, and the only way they can get hope is when you reply to them because you are answerable to them,” he stated.

“I want to say to him to do everything he can, to fast accelerate projects because of the issue of market prices, and he has started to handle that, and I am very glad about it,” he stated.

“Having worked in the works ministry, I know that is a high concern for him.” There is no steady price in this country within a 60-day period, therefore the fact that he has begun indicates that we will undoubtedly triumph.

“I’m also here to praise him for his efforts in establishing seven new colleges, one of which is in my state.” The university was gratefully named after me by the President. “I’m come to thank him,” he explained.

In response, Sonny Echono, Executive Secretary of TETFund, praised the governor for the numerous improvements he has brought to the state, noting that the governor is a model for measuring public service.

“I dare to state that the governor of Ebonyi State is a governor of whom the entire country is proud.” Seeing the changes that have occurred throughout the state.

“However, given the shift that we experienced under his excellency’s leadership, everyone has taken a cue.” It has become a yardstick for judging public service and even the delivery of the democratic dividend as it is captured,” he remarked.

He went on to say that the president was impressed with the structure put in place by the governor at the new Medical Sciences university, as well as the supply of world-class facilities, and that is why the president did not hesitate to name the institution after the governor.

“He kindly accepted the Federal Government’s offer to take over, and there was no difficulty in naming it after him to honor him.”

“Our country will grow and thrive if individuals commit to helping in the same way he has.” We will always be grateful for his service.

The TETFund CEO committed to continue working with the governor to guarantee that the new institution benefits both the state and the country.
