The flood that occurred in some parts of Lagos last weekend claimed the lives of seven people, including three children who shared a parent.

The three siblings who perished were living at a church belonging to Mercy of Christ Apostolic Church, located in an under-construction building, according to a statement released in Lagos on Wednesday by Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the NEMA’s Zonal Coordinator for the South West.

He claimed that while attempting to move from their room to the main church building, the siblings, Michael, 18, Elizabeth, 17, and Timi, 14, were swept away.

He claimed that Tmi, the youngest child and an asthmatic, slipped while attempting to climb the plank connecting their room to the church building and was swept away by the flood.

According to the coordinator, the other two perished in the flood while attempting to save their sibling.

Due to flooding that was experienced during the two days of nonstop rain, he added, “About eight lives were also saved during the period.

Farinloye claimed that the NEMA team met with representatives of Progressive Community Development Area while paying condolence visits to the families and touring the affected communities.

The grieving parents were rumored to be somewhere, but the NEMA team met briefly with local leaders to discuss the next steps.

“An appeal was made to them to start educating themselves and their community about safe behaviors for the remainder of the year in order to prevent the situation they encountered during that time.

Four siblings in the same community were also swept away on the same day, but the community came together and saved all of them, the community leaders also told NEMA, according to Farinloye.

He named Oke Isagun, Agbado Oke, and Oko LCDA in Alimosho LGA as the flooded communities.

The head of NEMA claimed that Progressive CDA members had informed NEMA that rainwater from Meiran, Abbatoir, Alagbado, Agege, and Toll gate had converged in their community.

In addition, Farinloye provided an update on the Oyatoki flood in Orile Agege, stating that two people perished and four were saved.
