The academic year at Covenant Point Academy, a primary school in Lagos’ Amukoko neighborhood, began on a tragic note yesterday, when the school fence collapsed, killing two students.

One of the children has been identified as Samat Saheed, and the other, a 10-year-old girl, as Judith Ndujie.

According to Vanguard, the 10-year-old girl who lived on Olumoko Street told her father that a neighbor had sent her on an errand.

According to a resident who requested anonymity, “she told her father that she would be back soon.” The school fence, which was under construction, collapsed on her chest as she walked past it to get to her destination.

Before she died, she screamed, “My chest!”

Late Samat, on the other hand, was said to be playing with his friends in an empty mosque adjacent to the school when she heard shouting outside.

According to witnesses, “she was standing in front of his mother’s shop when the second fence suddenly collapsed on him.”

Mrs Ndujie explained that she left her daughter with her father before leaving for work, only to learn of her daughter’s death upon her arrival.

“My daughter will be ten years old on May 16, 2022,” she said. She was scheduled to start JSS1 today, September 12, 2022.”

She claimed that the fence collapsed due to a lack of a solid foundation.

The owner of the school has been arrested, according to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin.
