A two-week strike suspension was announced by the National Union of Electricity Employees of Nigeria (NUEE) leadership yesterday.
The national grid was shut down for more than five hours prior to this, leaving the entire nation in darkness.
Reports state that the choice was made following a conciliation meeting in Abuja between the Federal government and the striking electricity workers.
Both the Minister of power, Engr. abubakar aliyu, and the minister of state for power, goddy jedy-agba, were present at the emergency meeting between the union, the government, and other stakeholders, which was called at the request of the Minister of labor and employment, CHRIS NGIGE.
The workers express confidence that the government will pay attention to the voice of reason and give the issue priority.
