Adekunle Akinlade, the political godson of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) deputy governorship candidate for the 2023 election in Ogun State.
Sikirullahi Ogundele, the Ogun State PDP chairman, made the announcement of Akinlade after a two-hour meeting behind closed doors with state executive officials.

Akinlade is now officially Ladi Adebutu’s running mate in the PDP governorship race after receiving his PDP membership card at the same event.

Adekunle Akinlade left the All Progressives Congress and a few days later, according to an earlier Naija News report, he joined the PDP in Ogun State (APC).

After Governor Dapo Abiodun defeated him in the APC’s May governorship primary, he abandoned the party for the PDP, citing injustice as one of his reasons.

Akinlade ran as the Allied Peoples Movement (APMcandidate )’s for governor of Ogun state in 2019, but he lost the election and switched back to the APC in December of that year.

Speaking after a meeting with PDP leaders at the party’s secretariat on Okemosan Street in Abeokuta, Akinlade said that although the choice to support Adebutu as the deputy governorship candidate in the upcoming election was not an easy one, it became necessary in order to protect the citizens of Ogun State from corrupt officials.

In order to guarantee the PDP’s victory in the upcoming elections, the former member of the House of Representatives vowed to work nonstop.

This was not an easy decision to make, he admitted. Although it might not be the most popular choice, in my opinion, it is absolutely necessary. Every sane Ogun State native must be prepared to make a sacrifice and to do whatever it takes to change the direction and trajectory of government by 2023 due to the maladministration in this state.

“In 2019, I ran for governor of this state under the APM, and my brother and this wonderful party, the PDP, supported me, which was evident in the election’s outcome. We will exert every effort to ensure that this party prevails in 2023. We’ll be at work in the morning and afternoon.
