Sen Oluremi Tinubu, wife of All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, said yesterday that if she becomes Nigeria’s first lady in 2023, she will be the voice of the voiceless, providing support for the less privileged and vulnerable Nigerians.

Mrs Tinubu made the remarks while meeting with internally displaced people (IDP) and people with special needs in Abuja’s Karon-Majigi Ward and Yar Goje community of the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

She was accompanied to the IDP camps by Hajiya Nana Shettima, wife of APC vice presidential candidate Sen. Kashim Shettima, and Dr Beta Edu, the party’s national women leader.

“I’m here today because we have a lot of work ahead of us.” “You don’t just jump into the water without learning how to swim,” she said, adding that her visit was not to campaign, but to familiarize and support the less fortunate, and to let them know she understands their plight.

She explained that her visit to the IDPs camp was essentially a familiarisation tour of the federal capital territory [FCT] to identify people with special needs in order to alleviate their sufferings.

“In a situation like this, they are more like voiceless,” Mrs Tinubu said. So we’ve come to see and “At the very least, if God brings us to that exalted position, we don’t just go there blindly without really understanding what’s in our communities and environs.”

I Assure them that they are not alone and that we understand their anguish.

She promised to make more such visits to other communities ahead of the 2023 general election in order to gain first-hand knowledge of what is going on in local communities, adding that this would allow her to better understand how she could meet the needs of the people.

Mrs Tinubu, who currently represents Lagos Central in the Senate, distributed food items to the less fortunate in the IDP camps she visited, including rice, maize, beans, cartons of Indomie noodles, vegetable oil, and condiments.

She also distributed cash gifts to members of the communities.
