The Federal University, Oye Ekiti, matriculated 7,433 new students on Friday after announcing that the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCAN) had given it permission to offer Medicine and Surgery. This was just two weeks after the Academic Staff Union of Universities called off its nationwide strike.

The institution has been given the freedom to launch the course with a maximum of 50 students from the 2022/2023 session, according to the university’s vice chancellor, Prof. Sunday Fasina.

Fasina advised the new students against “cultism, rape, prostitution, and examination fraud” in order to preserve the reputation of the school, adding that those who commit such heinous crimes will be swiftly expelled from the system.

On Friday, during the matriculation ceremony for the 7,433 new students accepted for the 2021/2022 semester, the Vice Chancellor made the announcement in Oye Ekiti.

Fasina expressed happiness that the university had been given permission to operate the Health and Medical Science Faculty, noting that this would raise the institution’s standing with regional, national, and international organizations.

“MDCAN had given us the go-ahead to accept 50 students to the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences to commence Medicine and Surgery, he stated. We have resources down here. The program will begin with facilities for basic medical sciences courses.

The VC cautioned the students that FUOYE is not a haven for people with criminal tendencies and that it has remained a bastion of learning recognized for research, moral upbringing, community service, and excellent academic programs.

Be careful in your studies and follow our guidelines, he said. I ask that you uphold and honor the oath you took today during your matriculation. It serves as a link between you and the college. Avoid vices including exam fraud, prostitution, rape, and cultism.

But among the universities in Nigeria, we have some of the most well-behaved pupils. There has never been a case of sexual harassment or cultism here. Because our kids have been properly cooked since day one to understand that such actions invite outright dismissal, we don’t accept such behavior.

Since only 7,433 of the approximately 53,000 applicants who submitted for admission were accepted, this is a special chance for you.

Fasina asserted that the university now has 11 faculties offering full-fledged courses and that FUOYE is now rated sixth among the ivory towers operating in Nigeria. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining the current pace.

“With this impressive ranking, FUOYE surpasses certain first- and second-generation Nigerian colleges; we did it first. Additionally, we are doing a lot of effort to improve our rating. We’ll maintain the momentum going forward.

“Our priorities are teaching, research, and community services, and we are delivering on all of them for our audience. No country ever advances beyond its knowledge. I won’t stop till our university is fully developed.

“You need to take advantage of the chance this university has given you. Work hard and finish your academic programs quickly. You as students must contribute as well, and we will work hard to maintain the consistency of our academic calendar, added Fasina.
