The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is poised to end its strike on Monday, October 17, 2022, after the Federal Government agreed to pay the remaining eight months’ salaries.

On Tuesday, ASUU announced this via its official Twitter handle @ASUU NG.

The tweet states, “BREAKING NEWS Universities to Reopen 17th October 2022 as Federal Govt Agrees To Pay The Outstanding 8 Months’ Salaries.” (1/2) #ASUUstrike #AsuuStrikeUpdate

“Revitalisation and wage issues have been resolved.” Although the UTAS problem has not been resolved, ASUU members have agreed to resume on October 17th.”

THEWILL previously reported that the ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, hinted that the union’s eight-month strike might be called off shortly during a meeting with the leadership of the House of Representatives on Monday in Abuja.

According to what the union saw at the meeting, “there is light at the end of the tunnel.”

“This time, it is hoped that no individuals or groups will raise difficulties that may cause the union to falter,” he stated.

He also hoped that the House leadership’s involvement would be the last for the benefit of the students, noting that ASUU’s struggle was for the country’s educational and university system.

“We aim to put a stop to this strike in the coming days.” “We want a system where the remuneration is sufficient to attract teachers from all over the world to our universities,” Osodeke stated.
