The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has apologized on behalf of Aminu Mohammed, a 500-level student at Federal University, Dutse Jigawa, who was detained after criticizing the First Lady, Aisha Buhari. According to The Nation, the student association requested Muhammad’s release from police custody in a statement that was released on Tuesday, November 29 by its president, Usman Barambu.

Muhammad’s whereabouts were unknown until it was learned that he had been arrested and taken to the police station in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, according to NANS, which characterized Muhammad’s arrest as an unlawful one in its statement.

Muhammad’s behavior, according to the union, was “just like normal ways angry citizens have different ways of expression on social media.”
