Edo State Police Command operatives killed five kidnappers in a gun battle.

The police rescued one kidnapped person, Mr. Innocent Achebe, 38, unharmed during the operation on August 14 in Ughoshi-Afe bush, Ibillo, Akoko-Edo:GA of the state.

The incident was confirmed by the command’s spokesman, Chidi Nwanbuzor, who stated that the suspected kidnappers were killed in a gun battle.

He stated that after receiving information about the kidnapping, the police, in collaboration with vigilantes and hunters, mobilized to the scene to rescue the kidnapped victim.

He stated that when the kidnappers saw the security team, they opened fire, and five of the kidnappers were fatally injured and later confirmed dead in the ensuing shootout.

“Innocent Achebe, 38, who was rescued unharmed, has been reunited with his family,” he said.

According to the spokesman, they recovered two locally made pistols, two cartridges, and some charms.

According to him, while commending the operatives, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, promised to work with relevant stakeholders and law-abiding citizens to ensure a safe state.
