Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has ordered the trial of PC Okoi Liyomo, a police officer who was caught flogging a man with a cutlass in Cross River State.

Early this week, social media was flooded with footage of a police officer flog an individual with the side of a cutlass, which drew the attention of Nigerian Police Force authorities.

Muyiwa Adejobi, the force spokesperson, said in a tweet that Liyomo met with the IGP in Abuja on Thursday and will face trial over the incident.

“PC Okoi Liyomo, the police officer caught on video flogging one man with a cutlass in Cross Rivers State, has been brought to the Force Headquarters in Abuja,” he said. Today he met with the IGP. His trial has been ordered by the IGP. I’m looking forward to the outcome of the trial.
