Oseni Rufai, the Arise Television presenter accused of driving on a BRT lane on the Lagos highway and resisting arrest by police, appeared in a Lagos mobile court on Tuesday.

He was charged with violating the Lagos State Transport Law of 2018, and the court found him guilty of violating the law by driving on the BRT lane and fined him N70,000.

According to reliable sources, Rufai made the payment and his vehicle was released to him.

This was revealed by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Tuesday night while providing an update on the situation on his Twitter handle.

“Mr Rufai Oseni was in court earlier today,” Hundeyin tweeted. He was found guilty of violating the Lagos State Transport Law (2018). He was later fined seventy thousand naira only. He made the payment, and his vehicle was returned to him.”

Meanwhile, Rufai has apologized to all parties involved in the incident, calling it a humbling experience.

On Wednesday morning, the journalist apologized during a live broadcast show on Arise News TV.

“I have to read the personal message I wrote,” Rufai said. As many of you are aware, I have been in the news for the wrong reasons in the last two days. This has caused unnecessary distraction for my friends, family, members of the general public, and all of my colleagues at Arise News.

“I would like to sincerely apologize to all parties for what occurred during the incident with the police when I was stopped while driving in the BRT bus lane.” I won’t pretend to know everything. This entire episode has taught us valuable lessons. For me, this has been a very humbling experience.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contacted me in the last two days for their advice and counsel.” Thank you very much. God bless you all, and please keep working to make our country a better place for all. Please accept my apologies.”
