President Muhammadu Buhari’s National Security Council meeting on Thursday revealed plans to thwart terrorist activities, including a statewide ban on motorcycles and mining to cut off their funding sources.

Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, gave a briefing to reporters after the meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He was joined by his equivalents in charge of the interior and police affairs, Rauf Aregbesola and Mohammed Dingyadi, respectively.

According to Malami, these logistics include the use of motorcycles for transportation and mining, which earns them the money necessary to pay for their supply of weapons.

He claimed that the federal government is currently considering ways to prevent their acts by restricting the already known sources.

Malami observed that mining and ransom taking have replaced the traditional methods of funding terrorists’ operations, necessitating government action.

The Interior Minister acknowledged that significant attempts were made to acquire intelligence before to the recent attack on Kuje Correctional Center but expressed sadness that there was no political will to act on it.

Aregbesola promised that all those found to have shirked their duty at the conclusion of the ongoing probe will be punished. He claimed that the preliminary investigation into the attack had been given to the president.
