On Tuesday, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) said its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, could not debate with Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate who has no documents or manifesto to show Nigerians.

Responding to the Labour Party’s challenge to Tinubu for an open debate with Obi, Festus Keyamo (SAN), Minister of State for Labour and Employment and Director, Public Affairs and Spokespersons, Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, said Obi should first release his manifesto before listing his achievements as governor of Anambra State.

He added that Obi should also tell Nigerians about people he has mentored in politics who are still with him today, any political parties he has formed, and his contributions to Nigeria’s return to democracy after years of military rule.

He stated that if the conditions are met, the APC will send one of its representatives to have an open debate with Obi.

“They have no manifesto, so what are we debating?” he says. Which documents are we contrasting? He stated that Nigerians should rely on what is inside his head rather than any document. So, what will Asiwaju be debating then? Is this campaign a prank on them? Do they believe this is a school debate and drama society?”

“Before Obi can debate alongside Asiwaju, he should first release a manifesto for scrutiny; then he should list his tangible achievements as Governor of Anambra State in comparison to Asiwaju’s tangible achievements as Governor of Lagos State.”

“Then he should list those he has mentored in politics since his days as Governor who are still with him today; and finally, he should tell us about any political party he has formed or partnered to form that he still belongs to today.”

“Then he should list his democratic credentials, that is, what he did to contribute to the return to democracy from military rule and what he has since done, better than Asiwaju, to sustain our democracy.”
“After all of this, we’ll send one of our spokespersons to debate with him.”
